Common name: Betony

Latin name: Stachys officinalis (formerly Betonica officinalis)

Description: Betony is a perennial herb in the mint family, found throughout England and Wales, but is generally absent from Scotland and Ireland. This purple flower is found on a range of sites including mildly acidic through to alkaline grasslands as well as woodland margins. It prefers damp but not waterlogged sites, grassland, riverbanks, roadsides and open woodland.

Height: 30-50cm

Flowering time: June to September

Colour: Red to purple

Management: Betony does best in late cutting meadows (cut in August). It will cope with a little grazing.

Kindly be aware that as autumn approaches, our wildflower plants might be delivered in a state where they appear to have passed their peak. We strive to inform you about this at the time of your order. It is common for native plants to exhibit leaf blotches or have dead/brown leaves during specific times of the year; this is entirely natural. We assure you that we meticulously inspect the root condition, ensuring their robust health. Once planted, the plug plant will respond accordingly.

Please understand that owing to the perishable nature of our plug plants, the usual right to cancel does not apply.
