Latin Name: Solidago virgaurea
Description: A late bloomer, goldenrod is a very variable species, both in terms of appearance and flowering behaviour, with many populations not flowering until August. It frequents well-drained, lime-poor soils, and so it common in dry, open woodlands, heaths and rocky open ground throughout much of the UK and Ireland.

Management: Goldenrods are easy plants to grow, and can be planted from autumn to spring. All flower stems should be cut back in the autumn.
