Common name: Red Clover

Latin name: Trifolium pratense

Description: Red clover occurs in a wide range of grassland habitats, from mountain ledges to sand dunes, through to lawns and urban waste grounds. It's pinky-red flowers are the most familiar of the clovers, with a wide variety of forms being present in different areas of the UK. The cloverleaf shaped leaves are larger than white clover and are downy with a marked white 'V' shape.

Height: 15-30cm but up to 50cm in some conditions

Flowering: May to October

Colour: Red or pink

Management: Red clover grows best in well-drained or dry, neutral or alkaline soils but will cope with mild acid soil. It prefers to be in full sunlight but will cope with dappled shade. They will grow in hay meadows and pastures with moderate grazing. The latter causing the plant to maintain a smaller size/height. Red clover stands that are one year old or older should be cut at least 3 or 4 times in a season. In newly sown grasslands they can in the first 2-3 years become dominant and cutting back or small scale control may be necessary but this outcome is dependant on the site conditions.

Kindly be aware that as autumn approaches, our wildflower plants might be delivered in a state where they appear to have passed their peak. We strive to inform you about this at the time of your order. It is common for native plants to exhibit leaf blotches or have dead/brown leaves during specific times of the year; this is entirely natural. We assure you that we meticulously inspect the root condition, ensuring their robust health. Once planted, the plug plant will respond accordingly.

Please understand that owing to the perishable nature of our plug plants, the usual right to cancel does not apply.
