Minimum Order 1 Plug Mix

Our Pollinators 40 Plug Plant mix supplies typical wildflower species that will attract vital pollinators. See below for habitat information. You will receive planting and maintenance/management advice with your order.

All our plants are true UK native British wildflowers grown from UK sourced native wild seed. We grow our plants in Peat-free growing media in our sustainable nursery.

By buying our plants/seeds you are supporting British based growers and suppliers who often work with local farmers-businesses. All our plants are grown from British Seed and raised in Britain. Please be aware some suppliers on the internet bring in plants/seed which are non-native imports and may not be true UK native plants/seeds. Whilst these may be cheaper, they may not be true UK native plants and may not be suited to our environment.

This product has a minimum quantity of 1 item (i.e. 40 plug plants).

Your order will consist of 5 plants from 8 of the species listed below - a total of 40 plug plants:

Betony (Stachys officinalis)      Black Knapweed (Centaurea nigra)
Birds-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus)     Bugle (Ajuga reptans)
Clustered Bell Flower (Campanula glomerata)    Common Vetch (Vicia sativa)
Cowslip (Primula veris)      Devils-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis)
Field Scabious (Knautia arvensis)     Foxglove (Digitalis purpurera)
Greater Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa)    Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria)
Meadow Cranesbill (Geranium pratense)    Red Campion (Silene dioica)
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)   Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris)
Tufted Vetch (Vicia cracca)     Vipers Bugloss (Echium vulgare)
Wild Marjoram (Origanum vulgare)     Wild Thyme (Thymus polytrichus)

The variety of species included in the plug plant mix depends on the time of year and stock availability.

Plants: By creating wildflower habitats you will be increasing the habitat availability and connectivity for pollinators, ultimately enhancing the natural history of your garden. Cumbria Wildflowers has adopted the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) ‘Plants for Pollinators' scheme and we ensure that our pollinator-friendly plants follow the RHS principals. One essential item to note is that we DO NOT use insecticides and therefore there is no risk to our native insects from our plants.

Habitat: These plants require areas where the ground conditions are generally moist for most of the year but will cope with some drying in the summer. Do not plant where the area floods in the winter. They require areas that are open and not too shaded but some of these plants will cope with moderate shade. Best planted in a window box, garden bed, trough, planter, corner of the garden or other areas. Ensure the site is free from weeds and best plant in to bare soil. These species will cope with neutral and lime rich soils and slight acidic soils. Too acidic or too lime rich soils may not suit some of these plants. Do not plant where these plants could be grazed or mown between March and August.

Management: We recommend allowing these plants to flower until September. Some may flower in May-June and if these do allow them to set seed and then cut back the vegetation to about 50mm IF they die back OR if you are happy with the plant and it is still green leave it alone for next year. Only remove dead/died back material and remove cuttings. Always be aware you will have to manage weeds in the first 2-3 years after planting.

PLEASE NOTE - We offer free planting & management advice with every order.

Kindly be aware that as autumn approaches, our wildflower plants might be delivered in a state where they appear to have passed their peak. We strive to inform you about this at the time of your order. It is common for native plants to exhibit leaf blotches or have dead/brown leaves during specific times of the year; this is entirely natural. We assure you that we meticulously inspect the root condition, ensuring their robust health. Once planted, the plug plant will respond accordingly.

Please understand that owing to the perishable nature of our plug plants, the usual right to cancel does not apply.
