Common name: White Water Lily
Latin name: Nymphaea alba
Description: White water Lily is our only native water lily which grows in natural ponds, lakes and other waterbodies. They grow and are found across the UK in natural ponds, free of pollution and usually require water over 1m deep but can cope with a general water depth of 40cm up to 2m. They flower from June to September and produce large white flowers with light yellow centres that can reach 10-13cm across. Plant in full sun, open water features.
Height: Floating plant that can spread about 1m-1.5m green floating leaves
Flowering time: June to September
Colour: White flower with light yellow centre
Management: Recommend planting in the mesh pot provided or pot out in to a larger mesh pot. Ensure pot is weighted and has gravel on top to stop growing media floating out. At the end of the growing season a light prune of some leaves and removal of the flowering stem is useful but most of the plant will die back for winter. Plants can be left in the water over winter or can be brought out and stored in a cool dry place free of frosts ready for next season.
