Common Name: Devil's-bit Scabious
Latin Name: Succisa pratensis
Description: The Devil's-bit Scabious is widespread in the UK, and can be found in damp meadows, marshes, woodland edges and riverbanks. It is a fairly late bloomer, flowering between July and October, and its rounded flowerheads attract a range of butterflies and bees. Most notable of these is the scarce Marsh Fritillary butterfly, of which the Devil's-bit Scabious is a key foodplant.

Flower Colour: Purple-blue
Management: Devil's-bit scabious plants can be planted in borders but does best in grazed wet grassland and left to flower well into September.
