We recommend sowing yellow rattle between 2-4g per m2 depending on your site conditions. The sowing rate could be reduced down to 1g per m2 for larger fields or if you don't want dense yellow rattle in your sward. Latin Name: Rhinanthus minor

Description: Sometimes called Hay Rattle by the so-called rattle sound produced by the ripe, papery seed-pods when ready to harvest. Yellow rattle is widespread across the UK and Ireland. It inhabits areas of hay meadow and lime-rich grassland, particularly in damper areas in the west and north. It produces bright yellow flowers from May through July. The plant is a semi-parasite of competitive grasses and this is useful as yellow rattle can help with meadow restoration schemes by controlling aggressive grasses and opening up the sward for other native plants.
