OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

At Cumbria Wildflowers, we are deeply committed to protecting and preserving the environment. We understand the urgent need to take responsibility for our actions and make sustainable choices that will safeguard our planet for future generations. Through our practices, products, and partnerships, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and promote a greener, more sustainable world.

Sustainable Sourcing and Production:
We prioritise sustainable sourcing practices throughout our operations. Our wildflower seeds are harvested from natural sites, ensuring that they are authentic UK native seeds. We operate a peat-free and sustainable nursery, using recycled garden compost and plant-based fertilisers. By embracing organic principles and minimising our use of synthetic chemicals, we contribute to healthier ecosystems and promote biodiversity.

Waste Reduction and Recycling:
We are dedicated to reducing waste and promoting recycling. All our packaging and boxes are made from compostable materials, allowing them to be returned to the earth through composting. To note, we were the 1st in our industry to introduce compostable packaging. We use brown cardboard, bio paper tape, and vegetable-based inks, while locally harvested straw serves as sustainable packaging material. We encourage our customers to reuse the plant trays in which the plugs are grown and shipped, reducing the need for single-use plastics.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Resources:
Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of our operations. We harness roof rainwater to irrigate our plants, reducing our reliance on freshwater resources. Solar panels power our facilities, reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Additionally, we utilise a biomass boiler for greenhouse heating, utilising organic waste to generate heat sustainably. By embracing renewable resources, we strive to minimise our environmental impact.

Wildlife Conservation and Habitat Restoration:
We actively contribute to wildlife conservation and habitat restoration efforts. We practice companion planting and employ biological pest control methods, avoiding the use of harmful pesticides. We create areas around our nursery that support the breeding and habitation of native insects like moths, butterflies, bees, and hoverflies, ensuring vital pollinators have a safe haven. By fostering biodiversity, we contribute to the health and resilience of local ecosystems.

Environmental Education and Partnerships:
We believe in the power of education and collaboration to drive positive change. We actively engage with our customers, sharing knowledge and resources to promote sustainable gardening practices. We collaborate with environmental organisations, community groups, and conservation initiatives to further our environmental mission. By working together, we can amplify our impact and inspire others to join us in protecting and preserving our natural world.

At Cumbria Wildflowers, environmental stewardship is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to continually seeking innovative ways to minimise our environmental footprint and operate in harmony with nature. By choosing Cumbria Wildflowers, you are not only supporting the beauty of your own garden but also contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future for our planet. Together, let's create a greener world.
