Common Name: Meadow Crane's-bill
Latin Name: Geranium pratense
Description: Meadow Crane's-bill has large purple flowers that turn into pointed, bill-like seed pods that give the plant its common name. It is a widespread species in England, Wales and southern Scotland, although in Ireland it is native only on and near the coast of County Antrim.

Management & Soil Types: Meadow Crane's-bill grows well in sunny spots. It can be found on farmland, grassland, and woodland. Meadow crane's-bill is a perennial, characteristic of rough grassland such as verges and stream sides and of damp hay meadows and lightly grazed pastures. It prefers but is not exclusive to calcareous soils.
