Common Name: Sheep's sorrel

Latin Name: Rumex acetosella

Description: A perennial herb, Sheep's sorrel is smaller than its close relative common sorrel. It is common across the UK and Ireland in heathland, dry grassland, rocky outcrops and sand dunes, creating areas of red where it forms patches. It is an important food plant for the caterpillars of the small copper butterfly.

Height: 10-30cm

Flowering time: May to August

Colour: Reddish with green

Management:  Sheep's Sorrel plants do best in lightly grazed grassland on moist, acidic soils. They can tolerate full sun or partial shade,
