Common name: Small Scabious
Latin: Scabiosa Columbaria
Description: With its large, pale-blue to violet flowerheads, small scabious is attractive to butterflies and bees. It inhabits dry, relatively infertile soils such as downs, hill-slopes and banks, and occasionally in limestone cliffs and quarries. It is largely a lowland species, having a scattered distribution throughout the UK, with the highest concentrations of plants being found in southern England.

Management: Small scabious is a hardy plant that will tolerate a variety of soils, although growing best in damp or dry ground. It cannot grow in the shade.
