1. CONSERVATION & HORTICULTURAL NURSERY WORKER

Cumbria Wildflowers is a busy wholesale plant nursery growing and selling UK native wildflowers and also working on various conservation restoration projects. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to join our existing nursery team to work within the wildflower nursery and undertaking specialist conservation and habitat restoration projects.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in habitat conservation and horticulture and be willing to work outside in all weathers in a demanding but rewarding environment.

Job Specification: Assist the Nursery Manager in carrying out a range of duties including but not exclusive to:

Conservation and Habitat restoration work including;

The use of Tractors, Mowers, Quad bikes, strimmers, Seed sowing equipment, Spraying equipment and other machinery to complete conservation / habitat restoration projects

  • Assisting with fencing, path recreation, boardwalks, and other tasks on Conservation and Habitat projects
  • Sowing & planting on Habitat Recreation and Creation Projects
  • Work on seed harvesting projects using brush harvesters
  • Cleaning and preparing harvested seed

Nursery work including;

  • Seed sowing
  • Vegetative Propagation
  • Pricking out seedlings
  • Potting on & planting
  • Watering & fertilising plants with good attention to detail
  • Compost mixing
  • Weeding pots, plant tidy and pruning
  • Nursery maintenance and other duties
  • Managing and preparing orders for dispatch

The role will command a range of on-the job and external training to meet the requirements of our clients. Training in Health & safety will form part of the job role.

Person Specification:

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • PA1 and PA6 spraying certification
  • Quad Bike certification
  • Trailer licence
  • Brush Cutters and Strimmer's certification
  • Horticultural Qualification

Skills (Essential)

  • Full Driving Licence (UK or EU equivalent) and driving in the UK.
  • Good communicating / interpersonal skills
  • Good team worker though can work alone if required
  • Physically fit as lifting and carrying are part of the role and the habitat work can be very physically demanding. 

2. Horticultural Nursery Worker

Cumbria Wildflowers is a busy wholesale plant nursery growing and selling UK native wildflowers. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated plants person to join our existing nursery team. Do you have a genuine interest in horticulture especially wildflowers and their habitat? Can you work out doors in all weathers? Both full time (40hrs/week) and part time (hours flexible) positions available.

Job Specification: Assist the Nursery Manager in all areas of the nursery carrying out a range of duties including but not exclusive to:

  • · Watering & fertilising plants with good attention to detail
  • · Pricking out seedlings
  • · Potting on & planting
  • · Seed sowing
  • · Compost mixing
  • · Weeding pots and pruning
  • · Nursery maintenance
  • · Managing and preparing orders for dispatch
  • · Sowing & planting on Habitat Recreation schemes
  • · Assist with harvesting seed
  • · Cleaning and preparing harvested seed.
  • · Occasional habitat management and planting.

The role will involve a degree of manual handling and training in Health & Safety will form part of the job role. On-the job and external training will also be provided to meet the requirements of our clients.
